INSTRUCTIONS
FOR PLANTING AND CARE OF CITRUS TREES.
SELECTING
THE PROPER PLACE TO PLANT:
1.)
Select a place where no water stands in the summer months.
2.) A place that receives at least 50% sunlight during the day.
3.) If you have purchased more than one tree, place them at least
15 feet apart.
PLANTING:
After
selecting the proper place to plant,
1.) Remove the sod from a three foot diameter circle.
2.) Inside the circle, dig a hole approximately 22 inches wide by
14 inches deep.
3.) Place the tree in the hole, making sure that the top of the
sack is at least 2 to 3 inches higher than your sod. This
is very important for proper survival of your tree. Accomplish this
by either, adding or subtracting dirt from your hole.
4.) Once proper height is established, start putting your dirt back
in the hole and spread it around. (Fill around tree till approximately
1/2 full.
5.) Now you untie the sack from around the tree, and pull it half
way down at the ball of the tree. Now add water to remove air from
the soil. At this point you should add top soil or cow manure.
6.) Finish filling the hole with dirt. You should have some dirt
left over; build an approximately 3 inch high water basin around
the hole.
7.) After building the basin fill with water, and wet the tree down.
Congratulations! You have just planted your first citrus tree! Leaf
shedding is normal some times as great as 2/3% will fall. This is
normal.
WATERING:
Watering is
very important for your tree. Citrus trees like to have dry
feet/ A little water goes a log way. You should water your
tree twice a week, for the first month. When watering; just
fill up the water basin, that is it. After one month, water
your tree once a week from then on. I if We Should get a good
rain 1/2 inch or more, skip that weeks watering. Once again;
a little water goes a long way! An over watered citrus tree
will turn yellow and shed it's leaves.
FERTILIZING:
Fertilize your
tree two week after you plant, then every six weeks there
after. Use a good 6/6/6 with trace elements. Use About 1/2
pound a tree. Fertilizing is very important for proper tree
growth and citrus production. Increase quantity as tree matures.
SPRAYING:
Spray your tree
twice a year in April and October spray with Malithion and
Volk oil. These two sprays can be mixed together and sprayed
at the same time. Make sure you follow the mixing instructions
on the spray bottles! This is not a case where a little
is good and a lot more is better.
If you
will follow our fertilization and spray schedule your tree
should never develop any serious problems. But if it does
develop problems help is just a phone call away, or feel free
to post your questions on our Ultra
Board
